To the Women by Anna BellToday, Monday 8th March 2021, we’re celebrating International Women’s Day.

Last night I sat down to watch The Glorias, ‘a film about Gloria Steinem — from her childhood in 1940s Ohio to her leading role in the women’s liberation movement’. Guess what? I’d never even heard of this woman until last night!

I found something I’d written in the notes section on my phone and today feels like the right day to share it.

To the women, by Anna Bell.

To the women that were told they were too young. I see you.

To the women that were told they were too old. I see you.

To the women that never got the chance. I see you.

To the women who were questioned for not wanting children. I see you.

To the women that were told they weren’t welcome. I see you.

To the women that are told that they’re not women. I see you.

To the women who are spinning the plates. I see you.

To the women whose plates have smashed. I see you.

To the women wearing masks. I see you.

To the women with masks that are slipping. I see you.

To the women who are tired of wearing the mask. I see you.

To the women who think they’ve f***ed them up. I see you.

To the women who feel trapped. I see you.

To the women who wonder why they can’t ‘do it all’. I see you.

To the women who are unheard. I see you.

To the women who are ‘too much’. I see you.

To the women who are called girls. I see you.

To the women that are held back. I see you.

To the women who are held down. I see you.

To the women who keep reaching. I see you.

To the women who lift up. I see you.

The women that went before us,
walk alongside us,
and those that will follow our lead.

Today and every day I encourage us all to SAY her name, make her VISIBLE and TELL others about her.

Say Her Name IWD 2021
